ECG Night

On 15th January 2009 a founding member of SCRUBS, now F2 Dr Angela McGreevy, hosted a revision session on ECGs for members of the society at the MBC.

The talk involved an exploration of the basics of analysing ECGs including rate, rhythm and looking at the different parts of the traces (P-waves, QRS-complexes and the different intervals). Other topics included were ST depression and elevation, Atrial Fibrillation and flutter and ventricular abnormalities. Dr McGreevy also touched on the different heart blocks and cardiac-axis deviation.

All attended gave great feedback on the event - we really did appreciate the tips she gave us for reading ECGs in future! Following the talk there was a short quiz of which the top three scorers won some Oxford Handbooks, kindly donated by the Medical Protection Society.

The winners were:

First (16/16): Mary Madden - Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties

Second (15/16): Karen O’Kane - Oxford Handbook of Acute Medicine

Thrid (14/16): Katherine Shirley - Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine
