Conference 2009
Finally for all you keen-beans who’ve been checking the site (or maybe not) we can confirm the details for this year’s Undergraduate Emergency Medicine Conference!
The date? Thursday 26th and Friday 27th March 2009
The cost? We know there’s a credit-crunch at the moment so we’ve reduced the fee for everyone this year: SCRUBS members pay only £15 and non-members £20. As always, we will run the poster section for any of you who wish to present a poster for undergraduate research - this will cost an additional £5 to your conference fee.
For 2009, we’re bringing the conference back closer to home:
- the first day of seminars, will take place at the Postgraduate Centre in Belfast City Hospital
- the second day of workshops and demos, will take place at the QUB Medical Biology Centre on the Lisburn Road.
Both venues are within a couple of minutes walk of each other and within easy reach of Belfast city-centre and many hostels, B&Bs and hotels! Click here for more details on places to stay.
The first day (at the Postgraduate centre), will consist of a series of case-based seminars focusing on different areas of trauma admission, including:
- spinal injuries
- acute shortness of breath
- acute paediatric admission
- burns victims
The Friday session takes place at the MBC and will involve splitting delegates into groups and rotating round a series of workshops, including inserting central venous lines, chest drains and taking ABGs.
On the evening of the last day (Friday) we are running a bit of a reception at AM:PM restaurant on Botanic Avenue in Belfast. This will be a light-hearted few drinks and a buffet dinner to finish off the two days in style and will give delegates a chance to speak to the doctors, our committee and some of the society members. This will cost an additional £10 per person (for drinks reception and buffet).
